How To Apply The Chunky Shape Glitter

how to apply chunky shape glitter dip powder

Chunky glitter can sometimes be a little tricky to apply, but chunky shape glitter can be even a bit trickier! We recommend the following steps for our chunky shape glitter applications. We found it's the best way to ensure you get a smoother finish, a less bulky nail, and visible glitter shapes that aren't covered up by dip powder. We'll be posting video tutorials soon!

Note: The pour over and then lay method works best for this chunky shape glitter dip powder. Follow the steps below for an easy and smooth application process on how to best apply our chunky shaped glitter dip powders:

  • 1. After prepping your nails, apply your liquid base coat to the nail.
  • 2. Pour the chunky shape glitter powder over your entire nail (cupcake liners are best for this). You should have mostly just dip powder on your nail at this point, instead of any large glitter pieces.
  • 3. Once the base powder is dry, dust off the remaining powder. Repeat step 2. You can either pour the powder over your nail into another cupcake liner, or back into the jar.
  • 4. Once you have poured over your nail twice, empty the contents of the jar either into a cupcake liner, or back into the jar.
  • 5. For the final layer, you will do the lay (or sometimes called place) method. Tap the jar, or lift the cupcake liner up and down a few times to get the glitter shapes to come to the top. Put your liquid base coat on your nail and then place your nail directly on top of the powder, and then lift straight up. You should have plenty of glitter shapes on your nail. (Note: You can skip this step and go directly to the next step, if you prefer.)
  • 6. With tweezers, pluck out any glitter shape you want to use and set them aside in a separate cupcake liner. Using a dotting tool (or orangewood stick or toothpick), move the shapes that are already on your nail around to where you want. You can manually place additional glitter shapes by hand, until you are satisfied with the placement. You will need to add a layer of liquid base coat before you do this though, so the glitter will stick to the nail.
  • 7. Once you have all the glitter shapes placed where you want, it is helpful to press down on them with a plastic baggy so that you don't get any glue on your fingers. This helps to get the glitters to lay flat on your nail. Then we recommend you encapsulate with either clear dip powder or builder gel (we recommend builder gel for chunky glitters, but both will work). The final steps are just as you would normally do when dipping.
If you use clear powder for encapsulating, then you will need to activate after the clear powder. If you use builder gel, activate before the builder gel. We hope these steps help in giving you the smoothest chunky glitter shape application possible!
